john abraham, actors stylists, high fees, entourage culture,

John Abraham recently expressed his concerns about the state of Hindi cinema, criticizing the industry for its escalating costs, particularly the exorbitant fees charged by stylists and actors. He described stylists asking for Rs 2 lakh per day as “mental” and called for introspection among actors regarding the precarious situation the industry finds itself in, which he characterized as “bleeding.”

John Abraham On High Fees Charged By Stylists & Actors

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, John Abraham stated, “It’s already hurting Hindi cinema. At this point of time, we shouldn’t be paying people to act in films because we don’t justify those huge budgets. The huge fees that we get paid, and we can’t load a film with entourage costs as well. It’s ridiculous. Don’t know if actors are thinking this way or is it their agent making them think differently. I understand you are put in a bubble, but you can’t be so daft. You need to see the real world. If people are blowing sunshine from your backside, you need to wake up and smell the coffee. As an industry, we are really suffering.”

John Abraham Urges Actors To Rethink High Fees

He urged actors to rethink their high fees and be receptive to feedback from directors regarding their worth. “First thing to make amends is by cutting your personal cost. When a director tells you that you aren’t worth that much, you need to take that in cognizance. We don’t have that thought yet. We compare ourselves to other actors, and we want to broadcast our fees, and that’s the worst thing to do,” he noted.

Abraham further highlighted the importance of acknowledging the crisis facing the industry, advocating for actors to focus on filmmaking rather than depleting resources. “Actors should admit that we are down the deep black hole, and actors should go to the backend and work on the film. Actors should say that if the films make profit, we make profits because we have earned our millions. How much more will you suck the system dry?” he argued.

John criticises producers

However, he clarified that the blame does not rest solely on actors. He also criticized producers for their willingness to pay hefty salaries in hopes of achieving a strong box-office opening. “Producers are complicit as they are ready to pay these outrageous amounts,” he said. According to Abraham, the industry’s primary problem lies in its focus on star power instead of substance, urging, “Focus on content; make films instead of pitches. No actor alone can guarantee an opening today. Prioritize strong storytelling and cast actors suited to the narrative.”

He also pointed out that studios are often hesitant to take risks on newcomers or unconventional choices, opting instead for established stars, which hinders the industry’s growth and evolution.
